The Skating Club of Southern New Jersey (SCOSNJ) was formed to support figure skating and to promote a friendly community of figure skaters.
History
The SCOSNJ was previously called the River’s Edge Figure Skating Club (REFSC). River's Edge held its first meeting in August of 1992. In May 1993, the US Figure Skating General council voted REFSC a regular probationary member. River’s Edge received its full member status as a USFSA club in May 1994. In 2003, REFSC moved its home rink to the Mt. Laurel Igloo and merged with Golden Blades Figure Skating Club which was formed in 1994. After the merger of Golden Blades and REFSC the name was changed to the Skating Club of Southern New Jersey to reflect the greater geographic region the club serves. During its 13 year history the club has hosted North Atlantic Regionals, Puerto Rican Nationals, Philadelphia Areas, New Jersey Council of Figure Skating Clubs Championships, and our own Winter Classic Competition. We are proud to have had skaters represent the club at regional, sectional and national competitive events
In brief, we are:
- Cooperative with, but financially and otherwise independent of, Mt Laurel Igloo Ice Rink.
- A non-profit organization as determined by the IRS.
- Governed by a twelve-member Board of Directors composed of adult skaters and skaters' parents.
If you skate regularly at Mt. Laurel Igloo, you may wish to join our club.
